Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party this Saturday, June 16

Welcome to the inaugural edition of our Untapped New York event picks, which will come to you weekly every Monday. We know New Yorkers have more than enough events to every night, so we’re carefully curating our list.

Monday, June 11: Chelsea Music Festival Gala Concert and Premiere  kicks off with a private event tonight at the Park Avenue Armory. This is the first event of the festival hailed by the New York Times as “a gem of a festival.” For the complete schedule, go to chelseasmusicfestival.org.

Tuesday, June 12: Moth StorySLAM at Housing Works on Crosby Street where local writing talents will battle each other for the ultimate prize.

Wednesday, June 13: An exploration of Tiki culture in the US at the American Museum of Natural History.  There will be tasting of Nui Nuis, Mai Tais, and Hawaiian Rooms,with rum provided by Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, El Dorado Rum, and Rhum Clément. 6:30pm, more details.

Thursday, June 14: Sandals Resorts transforms Grand Central into a tropical paradise replete with cocktails, food, and free spa treatments. Say I Do to Sandals goes from 7am to noon.

Friday, June 15: Screening of The Right Stuff by Columbia University Astronomy Outreach. The film will be followed by guided stargazing with provided telescopes. FREE.

Saturday, June 16:  Jazz Age Lawn Party  on Governor’s Island with vintage car show, swimsuit contest, dancing and an orchestra.

The Seed,  an immersive Vegan experience in Soho at 82Mercer for the  vegan-curious,  vegan-skeptical, and vegan  choir to explore what  veganism  has to offer. Movie screenings, food samplings, cooking demos and workshops.

Sunday, June 17:  

Summer on the Gowanus  brings together industrial grit with local food, drink and music, put together by  Justin Carter, one of the masterminds behind DJ company  Mister Saturday Night. 3-9pm, $15 early bird tix, $20 at the door.
