It is not secret or a surprise that New York City is short on space. But for 18 hours spread across 3 Saturday mornings there is a little bit more space for us to enjoy. Summer Streets is a wonderful program run by the DOT  that celebrates our most valued and used public spaces, our streets.

I ran across Summer Streets unexpectedly last Saturday. My friends and I braved the heat and beating sun as we walked down Park Ave from 47th to 28th Street for brunch. Like a bunch of tourists we snapped photos on our phones as we walked. How often can you walk down the middle of Park Avenue without worrying about a taxi plowing you down at any second? Despite the heat it was a wonderful walk, and something I will remember for a long time. My favorite part was walking in the viaduct that runs through the Helmsley Building.
