Spring is finally here. To celebrate, here are our list of curated events happening in NYC this week.
As part of St. Francis College‘s Walt Whitman literary series, the college invites award-winning author George Saunders to read from his latest book of short stories Tenth of December. The reading will be taking place at the College’s Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture and Education.
Spring Cleaning is upon us, and not just cleaning up that trashy room of yours. While most of us will be cleaning our rooms, or (God Forbid!) bathrooms; we who care about our inner selves will head to Brooklyn’s Chaitty Coffee Shop. The cafe is celebrating spring by having people show up to try their many different juice cleanses. All the ingredients are from farms—and we all know how important that is to people in Brooklyn—so sign up and try some Wakey Wakey.
Ballet NY’s 2014 season begins today for the first of three performances. They promise an exciting program, featuring the works of Margot Parsons, Ginger Thatcher and the programs’s co-Artistic Director Medhi Bahrini.
Members of the International Masonry Institute will be at The Museum of The City of New York for a demonstration and workshop circling around the art of making arches. The demonstration and workshop are in conjunction with the museum’s Palaces for the People: Guastavino and the Art of Structural Tile exhibit.
The Mellow Pages Library in Brooklyn is hosting an event celebrating the release of the poem anthology The Yolo Pages. Featured poets include Jacob Bakkia (@horse_ebooks), Beach Sloth, Emily Elizabeth Scott and many more. For more information, head over to the event’s Facebook page.
The Gowanus Swim Society are a collection of artists based in Gowanus who pool their resources together and provide a space for collaboration. The Society is having their first pop-up show at Trestle Projects in Brooklyn. Beer, interesting people and cool art are promised.
New York Live Arts is continuing on with their Studio Series. Their latest will feature dancer, choreographer and visual artist Jon Kinzel. Kinzel has created more than 30 pieces over the last 25 years and has been presented in numerous national and international venues.
Grammy Award winning, National Medal of Arts recipient and American cultural ambassador, BB King will be performing at Lehman Center in the Bronx. The icon will be performing a musical set spanning his entire illustrous career.
The Diamond in Brooklyn is having a Greenpoint Egg Hunt with the main prize being a $50 dollar bar tab. If that is not all the incentive you need to go to Greenpoint, we really do not know what else will be.
