Somehow, we’ve arrived close to the end of 2014. In the week before Christmas, here are our top event picks to ring in the holiday cheer from a Bar Car Night at the Botanical Garden to a 5K fueled by hot chocolate and beer to a tour of the American Academy.
New York Adventure Club is headed uptown to the American Academy of Arts and Letters at Audubon Terrace. The free tour through the members’ rooms, portrait gallery, library, and current exhibition gallery. After, they’ll visit a local eatery for a quick bite to eat! See photos inside the Academy here.
Nitehawk Cinema is playing Black and Blue, a hard-to-see concert film, never before released on DVD, focuses on the seminal nationwide tour (the name of which gives the movie its title, Black and Blue) that Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult co-headlined in 1980. Tickets are $15.
Polo Ralph Lauren opens his first restaurant, The Polo Bar on East 55th Street. The joint is a nod towards classic NYC establishments with a polo and equestrian influence in the design.

Did you know the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden has a “Bar Car Night?” Sip a complimentary cocktail as you journey through a series of station stops, including ice sculpture carving demonstrations. Tickets are $35 for non-members, $25 for members .
Celebrating 120 years as New York City’s oldest community music school, Third Street Music School Settlement in the East Village will present their free Artist Performance Series by the school’s acclaimed teaching faculty. Julietta Curenton will be performing on the flute.
