Why Pinball Was Illegal in NYC For 34 Years
Pinball was banned in New York City from 1942 to 1976 after a crusade by Mayor LaGuardia saw thousands of machines confiscated and destroyed.

Following up our summer cocktail party with the Museum at Eldridge Street, which featured a Secrets of the Lower East Side tour and after hours exploration of the stunning Eldridge Street synagogue, we’re partnering up with the organization again for the Untapped Cities holiday party. On Wednesday, December 9th, take a Secrets of the Eldridge Street Synagogue tour of the landmark sanctuary after hours and enjoy a wine reception.
We’ll share historical secrets of our century old synagogue and point out some of the building’s most surprising architectural details. And to celebrate the Jewish Festival of Lights, we’ll point out the building’s dazzling lighting features, provide latkes, jelly donuts and other traditional holiday goodies, and light a menorah marking the fourth day of the holiday!
