9. North Brother Island Was Originally Part of Westchester

Initially, North Brother Island was part of the Bronx, which was part of Westchester. In 1881, a bill transferred North Brother Island to New York, which was just Manhattan as the consolidation of the boroughs did not take place until 1898.
