We’re co-sponsoring the panel Designing Better Affordable Housing at the Museum of the City of New York, part of the Affordable Housing: A New York Legacy exhibit. The panelists will be taking questions from the Untapped Cities audience, which you can submit here or via Twitter using hashtag #UntappedMCNY.
Tuesday is the return of the #BigQuiet, a mass meditation and experiment in sound at the beautiful seated New York Society for Ethical Culture theater. Videowash projection mapping visuals will be displayed on the theater’s ceilings and walls, and DJ Ant Demby will close the night with a mellow set. Tickets available here
There will be a holiday reception and tour at the Merchant’s House Museum in the 19th century style.
The Brooklyn Historical Society will have a Collector’s Night at the quirky City Reliquary Museum.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be lighted starting at 7pm, with 45,000 LED lights turn on simultaneously.
The New York Transit Museum will host the talk Design Codified: The Graphic Standards Manual at 6:30pm about Massimo Vignelli and Bob Noorda’s wayfinding system and standardized signage design with Hamish Smyth and Jesse Reed are Associate Partners at Pentagram, who reproduced the manual last year.
It’s the last week to see The Eternal Space, a play about the demolition of Penn Station. Discount tickets are available here (or through our tour below), and Friday’s show will feature a panel with playwright Justin Rivers and photographer Norman McGrath, moderated by Untapped Cities founder Michelle Young

Travel back in time at The Museum of the City of New York with a Victorian Christmas Magic-Lantern Show with the American Magic-Lantern Theater at 3pm.
From 9 to 11 am, the New York Transit Museum will offer an exclusive private viewing of the 14th Annual Train Show in Grand Central Terminal at its annual Holiday Family Benefit. Guests can view the cityscape display of Lionel model trains without the daily crowds and will enjoy coffee and hot chocolate, breakfast, and a 20% discount on Transit Museum Store purchases. Proceeds from this fundraising event benefit the Transit Museum’s education programs. Tickets can be purchased here.
