With Memorial Day weekend behind us, the city heads into full summer mode. This weekend marks the launch of outdoor film festivals, park celebrations (Hudson River Park’s 20th anniversary, Freshkills Park Discovery day), the return of Greenpoint Open Studios, a stylish preservation, and lots of tours to get you outdoors.
Friday June 1st
In 2018, Films on the Green will explore the profound relationship between French culture and gastronomy: an integral part of France’s social fabric. The first event of the series will take place in Central Park at Cedar Hill (Fifth Avenue and 79th Street) featuring the movie Le Grand Restaurant by Jacques Besnard.
Saturday, June 2nd
Join our popular tour of the Secrets of Grand Central Terminal to see the hidden tennis courts, learn about a movie theater that was once inside, and tons of other little known fun facts about the landmarked building!

It’s the 20th Anniversary of Hudson River Park! Join a day of celebratory events at the 20th Anniversary Summer of Fun extravaganza on Pier 45. Read up on the park’s secrets in our article, The Top 10 Secrets of Hudson River Park, produced in partnership with the park!
It’s also the new iteration of the Woodlawn Cemetery Illuminated Mausoleum tour. Under the light of the moon, tour some of Woodlawn’s most beautiful mausoleums, appreciate the extravagant architecture, and marvel at the beautiful detail which makes these mausoleums part of New York’s history.
Greenpoint Open Studios returns Saturday and Sunday featuring 400 local artists is returning with 400 artistswho will open up their studios to showcase their work and engage directly with visitors. This uncurated event is free, open to the public, and includes a lineup of events starting with a launch party at Java Studios on Friday, June 1st (7:30PM-11:30PM), followed by two days of open studios (Saturday June 2nd & Sunday June 3rd from 12-6pm), and ending with a wrap party on Northern Territory’s beautiful roof.
Sunday June 3rd
It’s Freshkills Park Discovery Day from 11 AM to 4 PM for birdwatching tours, biking, performances by Staten Island Philharmonic, and many other NYC Park activities. On June 24th, join us for a free guided tour of Freshkills Park construction (with shuttle bus service provided from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal) by becoming an Untapped Cities Insider!
At 11 AM, join in our Secrets of Central Park and discover the secret bolt that dates back to the laying out of NYC’s street grid (and many more fun tidbits).

Monday June 4th
Take in a concert in a catacomb, if you dare! Green-Wood Cemetery launches its series of “Concerts in the Catacombs” on the 6th, which is sold out, but you can catch a dress rehearsal on Monday evening.
Wednesday June 6th
It’s the 2018 Municipal Arts Society After Dark Party, hosted by the MAS Urbanists at 28 Liberty Street, Danny Meyer’s never-before-seen event space. The MAS will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year, presenting the 2018 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal to Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault and Audrey & Danny Meyer.
Thursday June 7th
The Lott House in Marine Park, Brooklyn, one of the oldest houses in New York City (and with an Underground Railroad connection to boot!) will host its next Lawn Lecture. Learn about Brooklyn’s forgotten industrial landscape, and the men and women who made it run. You’ll see how the harbor functioned in its heyday, and discover how Brooklyn served as a model for businessmen, architects, engineers, and others looking to forge a new way of life for the modern world.
