Open yesterday, the 21st edition of Canstruction at Brookfield Place (formerly the World Financial Center) brings together incredible sculptures of food cans designed by artists, architecture firms, construction firms and more. Each team can plan in advance but are only given one night to build the sculptures. This year, more than 100,000 cans were used. The exhibition goes until November 13th.Entrance is free but visitors are encouraged to bring cans of food to donate to City Harvest.
There’s also a competition in place, which for the first time this year will involve a public vote on Facebook. The fun categories include “Best Use of Labels,” “Best Meal,” “Structural Ingenuity,” “Most Cans,” and “Jurors’ Favorite.” Here are some of our personal favorites, including the Staten Island Ferry, Sharknado, the New York Public Library icons. Don’t miss the great puns in the titles too!
