Yesterday, the Oak Room and Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel served its last drink. We went to capture the closure of the iconic institution. As reported, they were out of Pimms so we had another favorite, the hibiscus flower cocktail. The atmosphere was jolly, we didn’t hear anybody speak of “last day” and we lamented we would never have another lobster mini taco in the late afternoon.

The Oak Room, next to the bar:

The murals in the Oak Room are by Everett Shin, an American of the Ashcan School.

In the hallway outside the Oak Room, there is a hall of fame of celebrities at the Plaza (Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, the Beatles) and mementos of the Gilded Age.

Good night Oak Room. What will take its place?
