One of the most enjoyable things about living in the city of San Francisco is how visually dynamic it is. There is simply art everywhere, but not in a way that inundates you. The most interesting pieces are hidden away in nooks and crannies, and many people often overlook the “candy” placed in prominent locations. ART on STREETS highlights this city’s art through the lens of a “Polaroid” camera (except it’s an app on the phone).
This piece is located in a narrow alley and surrounded by construction. The mural was challenging to capture with my phone; in order to get the full scope, you’ll need to travel to the Mission district and see it in person. The piece spans half-way down the alley and incorporates classic San Francisco imagery with a nurturing twist, including musicians and the Golden Gate bridge.
To get there: Walk south along Valencia Street. After you pass 19th Street, look to your right for Cunningham Alley.
