Top off the summer this weekend with the annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island. There, Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra returns to the stage with vocalists Queen Esther, the Gelber & Manning duo, and great piano man Peter Mintun. Although there are several performances, the party offers dance lessons to anyone interested in adding period-specific moves to their repertoire. The festivities offers games, photobooths, a 1920s’s Motorcar Exhibition and High Court of Pie Contest. Partygoers can also enter (or watch) the Charleston Dance Contest or  join a “bathing beauties and beaus” parade. Vintage vendors and artisans will sell clothing on site.

Guests are invited to bring their own picnics as well as enjoy entrées, snacks, and treats on the party’s Gourmet Food Menu. Long-time NY-based restaurateur Jimmy Carbone pieced together an authentic, era-inspired menu. Also, Dreamland General Store will be offering hand fans parasols, blankets and assorted sundries. Lastly, for flapperettes and little gents, Kidland will be on the lawn. The party starts are 11am and goes until 5pm. Also don’t forget the French carousel festival Fête Paradiso also happening on Governors Island for double the vintage-era awesomeness.

Advance general admission tickets can be purchased for $30 online, and on-site for $35 (cash only). The event is free to children under 12. Also this weekend is “Jazz at the Mansion” at the Morel Jumel Mansion.
