PARK(ing) Day was out in full force on Friday, and we went to check out some of the great park(ing) spot takeovers in Flatiron, Tribeca and Greenwich Village. Here are some of our favorites:

The West 20th Street Park was inspired by a community effort to petition the city to create a permanent park on a vacant lot on West 20th Street:

Transportation Alternatives, a bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization, created multiple parks throughout the city to promote the implementation of bike lanes in those neighborhoods.

Stantec, a planning, engineering and architecture firm in the Flatiron District, constructed an interactive space reflecting on the people and places within the neighborhood.  Blocks with images of residents and scenes in the Flatiron District were stacked to reflect the built environment of the area. Visitors were invited to add their own drawings of the neighborhood to blank blocks located throughout the exhibit.

In most places, PARK(ing) Day is a guerrilla event but installations require a permit in New York City. Find out more information on how to set up a spot for next year here
