How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
Banksy kept everyone in wait today, posting in the morning that today’s work would go up at 5pm. Then it was 6pm. It seems like today, he left people “Waiting in vain”–a deliberate play on yesterday’s piece? People moved around their dinner plans. Others made some mocking Instagram posts. Then the intersection of Elizabeth and Houston started being talked about and Instagrammers started making their move to the location of Billy’s Antiques, taking pictures of the tarp, of what could be seen through peepholes into the fence. They argued amongst themselves. Finally, someone tried to climb over the fence but was stopped.
Instagrammer alistairkahlo wrote that it was probably going to be an interactive version of this work, “Brace Yourself” of a grim reaper in a bumper car, which is indeed what was posted on the Instagram. As of 6:15pm, onlookers were still waiting for the piece to be revealed however. A little before 6:30, Instagrammer yaya_077 posted a photo saying there were fog machines and a guy playing accordion. Here’s what it looked like behind the tarp on Houston Street:
