How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
Opened in time for the 2015 New York Comic Con, the New-York Historical Society exhibit “Superheroes in Gotham” has just the right balance to delight kids (who get in for free) and adults. The lobby of the museum features one of the many highlights – one of three working Batmobiles from the 1966-1968 television show.
The three-room exhibit on the second floor of the museum opens with a timeline of the legendary heroes – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Spider-Man and Iron Man. The exhibit places each character within the historical context in which they were created and connects them all to their New York City/Gotham roots.
The exhibit features a mix of items, from vintage collectible comic books, radio recordings of the first Superman stories, costumes, and set paintings. The exhibit also looks toward the future, with contemporary New York-based superhero comics.
