Hello Untapped Cities readers! We’ve grown up quite a bit in the last few years and as the founder of Untapped Cities, I’m more than proud to have seen the company grow from my humble idea to rediscover cities (particularly New York City, where we’re based) to the robust community of contributors and readers it is today. Each month, Untapped Cities receives over a million and a half page views and we host hundreds of New Yorkers and visitors on our behind the scenes tours. We have over 600 contributors on our roster and have welcomed twelve classes of interns.

We recently joined the GSAPP Incubator, an initiative of Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, located at the NEW INC incubator at the New Museum, the world’s first museum-led incubator. We are organizing our first ever multi-series summit about Penn Station, held at both the Transit Museum and Cooper Union, in partnership with the Museum of the City of New York. (Join us for the next event on November 2nd!)

All of this is why for the last couple months, we’ve been focused on redeveloping the Untapped Cities website to better reflect what we do and where we are headed. Yesterday morning, it went live. (Check out the homepage!)

We wanted the new site to be modern, light and able to showcase our urban values. We continue to build on the core of what we do – deliver great quality, highly visual, and fun content about urban topics like our Secrets of NYC seriesour monthly exploration into the city’s public outdoor art, and the Fun Maps column. You’ll notice we’ve added a travel section on the site, which will focus on areas around New York City like the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

But in the last year, we’ve focused hard on also providing access to the places we write about for our readers. We’ve expanded our tours series, which we started initially just because we wanted to meet our readers. We’ve added a wider assortment of experiences and more dates for each tour, since they were perpetually getting sold out with long waiting lists.

And we’re always looking for people to join the team! We offer one of a kind perks to our staff, like access to the secret basement and glass walkways in Grand Central and a visit to an off-limits, abandoned hospital. Right now, we’re looking for more tour guides and new interns starting January 2017.

Thank you all for reading Untapped Cities, joining in our tours, being part of our community, and continuing to be the type of urban explorers who hope to reach and cultivate for the next generation.
