Located at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Jackson Avenue in Long Island City
The much debated and long-awaited installation, The Sunbather, which is part of the Jackson Avenue Streetscape Project, has arrived in Queens. Created by artist Ohad Meromi, the 4,000 pound bronze installation was commissioned by the Department of Cultural Affairs through its Percent for Art Program. The whimsical figure stands nine-feet high and is painted an eye-popping, bubblegum shade of pink. It sits on a traffic median, surrounded by scores of new construction projects, and is part of a longterm plan for Jackson Avenue, which includes new lighting and improved road design.
