On Monday, June 5th, the non-profit Sing for Hope will bring back its annual array of artist-decorated pianos that will enliven the sidewalks, parks and public spaces of New York City. Launched in 2006, Sing for Hope has been releasing pianos into the urban wild since 2010 and will hit a new record this year, with its 400th artist-decorated piano. Any body can sit down and play some tunes, with the idea to to engage the public with the arts. After the event is over this year on June 25th, the pianos will make their way to New York City public schools, where they will power the Sing for Hope’s creative programs.
There are some impressive artists on the roster this year which include the cast of numerous Broadway shows including Aladdin and Phantom of the Opera, Saturday Night Live actress Kate McKinnon with a subway-themed piano, Sesame Street Creative Director Louis Henry Mitchell, Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack, and Billy the Artist.
