Modern Art Foundry Behind-the-Scenes Tour:Â Friday, June 2nd at 12:30pm
What if we told you that within our city lives the beating heart of the art of sculpting? The roots of some of the most recognizable works of art –from the Alice In Wonderland sculpture in Central Park to the Fiorello LaGuardia statue in LaGuardia Place – are actually hidden in plain sight in the Modern Art Foundry, housed inside the former carriage house of the famous Steinway Mansion. Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of this fascinating mecca for sculptors, led by third generation owner, Jeffrey Spring.
Learn about the whole process of artistic fabrication, get an insider look at artists working on projects inside the foundry and see a live bronze metal pouring.

This includes the massive one hidden in plain sight: the original street grid embedded in lower Manhattan grid today. Discover the many hidden Dutch relics south of Wall Street, as you trace the streets of Manhattan in 1667. You’ll walk along the city’s original coast line, see the remains of Manhattan’s first City Hall and hear about New York’s founding myths and facts while standing in the very spots they all happened.
