The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVSHP) has provided the public with wonderful archives full of old pictures of New York City to help preserve the architectural heritage and culture of Greenwich Village, East Village, and NoHo. The GVSHP has assembled several archives over the years, all of which were donated to the preservation. And now, the archives have just gotten even bigger, with Carole Teller generously donating over 500 images that she captured of New York City from the early 1960s to the early 1990s.

The photos are being placed in their own collection called Carole Teller’s Changing New York, which can now be viewed here. Teller is an artist who has lived in East Village since the 1960s, and her photographs capture an incredible change in New York City over the last half century.
The photos themselves are a testament to her remarkable talent for capturing settings on the verge of change, from demolition to renewal. Each picture snapshots a scene that no longer exists, at least as portrayed. It will help you see New York City through a new lens, as a place both foreign and comfortingly familiar.

Prints of the collection’s images are available for sale to the public through the website, with proceeds going to benefit the GVSHP. Below is a sneak peek of the collection, so you can get a feel of how remarkably these images capture the changes and culture of New York City from the 1960s to early 1990s.
