For everyone that survived the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, we have a fun fact that comes to us from tour guide and historian Justin Ferate. One of the murals in Grand Central Terminal was designed by the same person who created the first balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day, including Felix the Cat!

The mural by Tony Sarg is inside Central Cellars Wine & Spirits (formerly) Grande Harvest Wines and was originally part of Grand Central Theatre, which was built in 1937. It was part of the terminal for three decades. The theater, with stadium seating, was targeted specifically at commuters, playing newsreels, documentaries, sometimes cartoons.

Uncover more secrets of Grand Central terminal on an upcoming guided walking tour!
