Dear Untapped Cities readers! 2017 has been an exciting year for us, filled with many firsts and exciting changes. Now that 2018 is drawing near, we’re thrilled to announce the latest development here at Untapped: our new private tours page, featuring the full breadth of experiences we offer. Whether you’re a history buff, an arts enthusiast, a transit nerd or an off-limits explorer, our experiences are created to help New Yorkers, visitors and the curious-minded rediscover their city.
Since Untapped Cities first launched as a web magazine back in 2009, our goal has always been to help people uncover the urban gems around them. We’ve grown quite a bit in the past few years thanks largely to our readers and followers — and today, we work with a robust community of over 600 contributors that help us unearth New York City’s most unique and surprising places and stories.
Because our goal is to encourage discovery, we launched a variety of behind-the-scenes tours in addition to sharing information through our articles. This allows us to interact and connect with our readers. Our new private tours page showcases all the experiences that we offer, including tours that focus on history, art, architecture and places that are usually inaccessible. This includes some of our most popular experiences, such as our hard-hat tour of the abandoned hospital complex at Ellis Island, our insider tour of the Woolworth Building, usually off-limits to the public, or our very popular tour of the Secrets of Grand Central Terminal.
Our new user-friendly pages helps you quickly identify which experiences will be the most memorable for you based on your interests. We also work with a dedicated team of licensed New York City tour guides, made up of educators, history lovers and theater professionals, to curate and develop our experiences for diverse guests. We’ve been very happy to welcome school groups ranging from kindergarteners to graduate students, companies like Google or Goldman Sachs, alumni groups and family outings. We’ve also made it easier to purchase gift cards so that our readers can share the gift of discovery with their friends and family.
