Forget your typical game of darts: Gowanus is now home to a 7,000-square-foot bar that specializes in axe throwing. Located on 622 DeGraw St., Kick Axe opened to the public on December 15, offering beer, wine and malt beverages inside a rustic, cabin-like setting. Whether you choose to yield a weapon or down a drink, it’s the ideal location to vent out your frustrations.

In a city full of themed, gimmicky bars, Kick Axe claims the title of New York City’s first axe throwing venue that is equipped with 10 throwing ranges. If the combination of hurling tools and drinking sounds like a precarious combination, you need not fear: Safety experts and trained instructors will be on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“We’re thrilled to bring the experience of axe-throwing to Brooklyn,” said Kick Axe founder and owner Ginger Flesher-Sonnier in a press release. “Throwing an axe is a hugely satisfying, fun and easy experience. It’s about momentum, not strength.”

In addition to 75-minute axe throwing sessions ($35), Kick Axe offers microwave mini-meals like Chunky Soup and Chili and Hormel Meatloaf & Mashed Potatoes, as well as gourmet sandwiches from Stuf’d Food Truck. Plus, the lumberjack-style lodge, decorated with antler chandeliers and hide rugs, is the perfect backdrop for photographs after your Paul Bunyan-ing session.
