Few sights in the world can compare to that of New York City from above. It makes sense then that we’ve been obsessed with aerial photography ever since we caught wind of Jeffrey Milstein’s stunning work. Now Milstein, an architect turned photographer, is being featured in a new solo show, Leaning Out, which will be on view at the Benrubi Gallery from January 25 to March 17, 2018.
The exhibition will display a series of images that focus on urban subjects, ranging from cityscapes to train yards, to airports and parking lots). Altogether, the collection of photographs, which were taken from small planes and helicopters, come together to reveal the “harmonious symmetries invisible during daily life.”

Milstein’s bird’s eye shots are described as geometric mosaics: the images feature ordered patterns, which are organically created from arrangements of ordinary city fixtures like shipping containers, train cards and automobiles.

“The images suggest that however chaotic or inscrutable modern life might appear, it is the product of age-old patterns that move us in ways we may not consciously perceive, but which nevertheless guide us through our daily routines,” a press release for the exhibit states.
Leaning Out will be on view from from January 25 to March 17, 2018 at the Benrubi Gallery. An opening reception will take place on January 25 from 6pm to 8pm.
