Announced today at a press conference in the Brooklyn Museum, the sixth edition of NYCxDesign will take place from May 11 to 23rd. NYCxDesign is a citywide celebration of design with hundreds of events across two weeks, ranging from exhibitions, open studios, trade shows, talks, and more. Design is considered broadly for this event, and includes architecture, interior design, product design, fashion, graphic design and more. Last year, almost 350,000 visitors attended the festival from all around the world.

The preview of events promises an exciting lineup, from the return of the DESIGN PAVILION in Times Square with a dedicated performance space and interactive installations, to the move of the Brooklyn Designs competition moving to the Brooklyn Museum, to large scale to an event at the new Domino Park at the Domino Sugar Factory site. The DESIGN PAVILION this year will also include a partnership with NASDAQ, which runs the cylindrical video column in Times Square to feature design-themed interviews and stories during the two weeks. The Design Trust for Public Space will host a conversation and tour at El Space, an experimental design below the Gowanus Expressway at Industry City.
Neighborhoods like Tribeca, SoHo and NoMad will be be spotlighting their design districts and Red Hook’s studios and museums will open their doors for a special two day event. Brookfield Place will host an exploration on the worldwide trend of bicycle riding as a sustainable transit method with an installation by artist Carlos Rolón.
On the futuristic end, GenSpace will host a workshop on biomaterials and how to design with living organisms and you can imbibe a cocktail inspired by Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year, “Ultraviolet” at Tealeaves, a tea company.
New York City’s design schools are heavily involved, with events and exhibitions at The Cooper Union, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, School of Visual Arts, and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). The city’s museums will have exciting programming as well, including the Brooklyn Museum with the launch of the David Bowie exhibition with a dance party entitled “Night of 1,000 Bowies,”  Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Arts and Design and the Museum fat FIT.
