With consideration to changing climate conditions, a growing city population and aging infrastructure, the importance of sustainability initiatives cannot be underscored enough. This is why Untapped Cities recently launched its sustainability column, covering topics ranging from New York City’s largest solar energy projects to the story of affordable green housing. To further this discussion, Augustin Pasquet, the co-founder and Head of Business Development at Untapped Cities, will be participating in Building Sustainable Cities Through Travel, a forthcoming event hosted by Impact Travel NYC.

Taking place on February 27 from 7pm to 9pm, the panel discussion brings together innovators who are implementing sustainable projects to accommodate the increasing number of people who visit New York City. Pasquet will be joined by Anastasia Cole Plakias, Vice President & Founding Partner of Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm; Devin Shomaker, Founder & Managing Partner of Rooftop Reds; and Dom Gervasi, Owner & Producer of Made in Brooklyn Tours, with Patricia Serrano, ITA NYC Hub’s Co-Lead as the moderator.

As a “global community of changemarkers,” nonprofit Impact Travel Alliance seeks to create an impactful travel industry, where sustainable tourism can act as a force to tackle issues like inequality or poverty. “… cities are places with potential,” Impact Travel Alliance writes. “Global Goal 11 – making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable — recognizes cities as places with the people power necessary to come up with creative solutions to unique and universal challenges. Building cities that are safer, healthier, greener and more affordable for residents and travelers requires innovation.”
