One of New York City’s most visible beaches – the Brooklyn Bridge Beach – is usually off-limits but will open for one day this Saturday, in celebration of 11th annual City of Water Day which is taking place at the Seaport District. The opening of the sandy beach is a partnership between the Waterfront Alliance, that runs City of Water Day, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, a direct response to a rallying cry by Lower Manhattan civic groups that have urged the City of New York for years to grant public access to the beach under the Brooklyn Bridge.

City of Water Day will also include a number of other great events to get out on the water, including free, narrated PortNYC boat tours along the South Street Seaport Museum Street of Ships, a Cardboard Kayak Race starting at next to Brooklyn Bridge Beach, $5 admission at South Street Seaport Museum, and more activities around the five boroughs and New Jersey. You can also join us for a tour of the Secrets of Brooklyn Bridge this Sunday!
