This past weekend was the second-ever Formula E Championship in New York City, which took place at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal again in Red Hook. The Qatar Airways Formula E is not just an average car race. The races take place inside some of the most notable world cities, from the season debut in Hong Kong to races in Paris and Rome, and promotes the use of emerging technologies. Specifically, the race highlights new technology in the manufacturing of electric cars to prompt conversations and actions to speed up the process of implementing clean transportation on a global scale. More car manufacturers have joined in on the race and contributed their own technology and designs for this year’s fully-electric cars.
The event consisted of two back-to-back races with all 10 teams and 20 drivers competing for the championship. These eagerly anticipated races would define the entire Formula E season, as driver Sam Bird sought to finish first ahead of Jean Eric-Vergne of the Techeetah team. Set against the iconic background of the Manhattan skyline, crowds gathered to watch the race. Untapped Cities was on site to cover all of the behind the scenes action, from preparation to the precise moment that Jean Eric-Vergne crossed the finish line and claimed the championship of this monumental race.
