Though Roosevelt’s original Flatiron District birthplace was demolished in 1916, it was rebuilt after his death by the Women’s Roosevelt Memorial Association. The home was decorated with original furnishings provided by Roosevelt’s sisters and wife. Sixty percent of the items found in the home are Roosevelt heirlooms and the rest date from the 19th century.

WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Larger bags are required to be stored in lockers. These lockers have a unique combination that the individual sets. (We do not want larger bags to go up into the period rooms since they may accidentally hook on items, knocking them over, or scratch the irreplaceable wallpaper).
  • Still photos are allowed without flash. Audio and video recording are not permitted (as per request by the Roosevelt family)
  • There are two staircases of 21 stairs between floors. If there are any members with physical limitations, there is an elevator that can accommodate a simple wheelchair, and stools available to sit on if anyone is uncomfortable standing for extended amount of times (5-10 minutes).
