How well do you know New York City? The Museum of the City of New York is giving you a chance to find out at their upcoming fundraiser event, Keys to the City: The Ultimate New York City Scavenger Hunt. With 50 clues spread out over two boroughs, participants will be tasked with identifying and visiting different locations around the city, from iconic buildings to historic watering holes, to gain points and help raise vital funds for the museum. The hunt, which takes place Saturday, May 4th, will be followed by an after-party at the museum where teams will be awarded amazing prizes such as private tours and museum memberships.
Here’s how it works: Starting at 10:00am, teams of three to ten players meet at a location of their choosing then set out to decipher the clues and identify as many sites as they can in the Lower East Side, Two Bridges, the Financial District, Brooklyn Heights, and DUMBO. Then, the whole team takes a photograph at each site and posts the images to a designated Instagram account in order to earn points. Clues are worth different point values depending on difficulty and distance. Bonus points may be offered at select sites!
At 5:00pm the hunt is over and teams are invited to gather at the Museum of the City of New York for an after-party. Participants can toast to their accomplishments and find out if they are part of the winning team. First Place scavenger hunt winners will receive a private gallery tour and reception as well as Family Museum Memberships for each team member (valued at $150) and the second place team will receive Family Museum Memberships for each team member as well. Prizes will be given out to top fundraisers as well! The participant with the highest total donations will win four tickets to New York City Center’s Encores! performance of High Button Shoes on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 pm and the participant with the most donors will receive tour tickets to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
