The TWA Hotel’s airplane cocktail lounge has done quite a bit of travelling. After being transported from Maine to John F. Kennedy airport in New York City late last year, the fuselage of the vintage airliner went on a tour of the city and spent a weekend in Times Square at the site of its former billboard. This week, the fuselage returned to JFK where it will remain permanently as a retro cocktail lounge for TWA Hotel which opens on May 15th.

The 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane, which measures in at just over 116 feet long and 23 feet high, was hoisted by crane into the same spot at the TWA terminal where she parked in 1962. The last time Connie was parked at this spot, JFK was named Idlewild Airport. On Tuesday night, the fuselage was finally reattached to its wings which span 150 feet.

The fully restored L-1649A plane has finally completed its transformation from airplane to cocktail lounge and starting May 15th, guests can enjoy beverages and snacks inside the fuselage, as well as play with authentic controls inside the plane’s cockpit.
