While celebrities and A-listers party uptown Monday night at the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there will be another exciting art party, open to all, going on at The Williamsburg Hotel. The METa Gala is a one-night-only event dedicated to experimental art and music. Borrowing the theme of “Camp” from the uptown Gala, the party will feature live, underground, genre-bending performances and multimedia installations from emerging New York City artists. Proceeds from the festivities will be put towards an exhibition that will feature work from the young and emerging artists on-view at the Gala in late 2019.
Artworks experienced at the METa Gala will explore the theme of “Camp” in relation to Susan Sontag’s 1964 definition as a “love of the unnatural, of artifice and exaggeration; style at the expense of content; the triumph of the epicene style.” Guests will experience art in the form of digital projections, musical performances, lighting art, and other forms that co-producers Jessica Wong and Ludovica Capobianco feel are culturally relevant and important to highlight and promote. After a cocktail hour, guests will be treated to performances by Greg Fox, Tygapaw, Ariel Zetina, and Traxman, as well as artwork from James Moore, Kip Davis and Zoe Fitzgerald. The evening is sponsored by Empress 1908 and Long Drink.

Funds raised by the party will be used to highlight, support, and empower the emerging artists incorporated into the evening. The end-goal of the fundraising effort is to produce a large-scale group art exhibition in New York City in late-2019. This exhibition will focus on work that is immersive and site-specific and that goes beyond physical objects to create an aesthetic experience.
