Inspired by a field trip to the home of President Rutherford B. Hayes in the third grade, Lindsey R. Mullholand’s interest in history has grown into a life-long passion which manifests itself in interactive and multi-sensory exhibits. Last year, Mullholand took her passion for history and turned it into the First George Washington Inaugural Ball, and 18th-century themed costume ball inside the Federal Hall National Memorial. This year, the Inaugural Ball is returning to Federal Hall for the second year. The ball allows guests to travel back to 1789 with historic food, drink and period entertainment. If you are an Untapped Cities Insider, you can attend this event for free! Not an Insider yet? Become a member today to gain access to free behind-the-scenes tours and special events all year long!
The evening will feature The Hearts of Oak Independent Militia Company (of which Alexander Hamilton was Captain), The Ministers of Apollo and minuet and country dances (which you can take part in or just observe). There will also be a historical presentation on the history of George Washington’s Inauguration. Guests are encouraged to wear either cocktail, black tie or their 18th century best for a time-traveling, one-of-a-kind evening.
