The American Copper Buildings, a pair of conjoined skyscrapers designed by SHoP Architects on Manhattan’s East Side, hold two impressive records. First, they are the tallest copper-clad buildings in the world. The shiny copper finish will turn to a green patina over time, just like the Statue of Liberty. The next record they hold has to do with how they are attached to each other. The two luxury residential towers are connected by a three-story skybridge, the first major skybridge built in New York in over eighty years. Inside there is a lounge and lap pool, which means you could literally swim from one building to another. On this tour, guests will learn about the innovative architecture of the American Copper Buildings and the redevelopment of a previously underutilized industrial site. Guests will visit the skybridge, the lobby, and see model apartment units – of which there are hundreds of unique layouts due to the slightly askew angle of the towers.
