How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
We’ve got some exciting news! We’ve partnered with LinkNYC to curate a new photo scavenger hunt on the sidewalk kiosks. In “Name This Spot,” we’re featuring some of the city’s most unique architecture in abstract, close-up angles across the five boroughs. The first five mystery locations to guess are live this week on then kiosks, and we’ll be cycling in more each Tuesday over the next few weeks. You can submit your guesses on Instagram by tagging a post or story with @linknycofficial and @untappedcities. We’ll be revealing the locations on our own Instagram @untappedny and @linknycofficial each week!
All the photographs were taken by people from our team, including Michelle Young, Nicole Saraniero, Augustin Pasquet, Ethan Benedek, John Tyler Marshall, and Bhushan Mondkar. You’ll also notice a change in our name on the kiosks — it’s a preview of something we’re unveiling at the end of this month. We’ll be returning to our original name Untapped New York! (More on that to come). This is the second partnership we’ve launched with LinkNYC, including a summer curation of fun facts this year to encourage New Yorkers to explore the great outdoors right here in the New York City.
For the first week, anyone who guesses the correct locations by tagging @untappedny and @linknycofficial (either in the comments of our posts or in your own posts or stories) will be in the running for two free tickets to an upcoming Untapped Cities tour ($70 value)!
