You see the shimmering lights of the aurora borealis. You hear an approaching stampede of caribou. You smell fresh arctic air, but you are standing in the heart of Brooklyn. The Arctic Refuge Experience. Step In. Step up., a limited-run interactive art exhibit at 25 Kent Avenue, is bringing the arctic wilderness to New York City with a new multi-sensory experience. With 4D technology, 16 million pixels of projected video, and custom scents, visitors can see, feel, hear, and smell one of the last wilderness in the country, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This immersive experience is only available through Sunday, October 27th. If you are an Untapped New York Insider, you can attend this show for free tonight, Friday, October 25th! Not an Insider yet? The Arctic Refuge Experience is more than just an amazing art installation. The experience aims to show, in visceral detail, how oil, gas, and development threaten the natural wilderness. For decades, the unspoiled land of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has been protected, but now the area is about to be opened to oil drilling. The land is sacred to the Gwich’in people and the experience highlights their leadership in standing up for their home.

By allowing the masses to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and wonder of the arctic, the organizations behind the show, including The Wilderness SocietyGwich’in Steering Committee, and the Arctic Refuge Defense Coalition, hope to inspire visitors to take immediate, collective action to #ProtectTheArctic. All of the net proceeds will go to the Gwich’in Steering Committee and Gwich’in Youth Council. You can purchase tickets to this experience, which runs through 7:00pm on Sunday, October 27th, here! If you are an Untapped New York Insider, you can attend this show for free this evening, Friday, October 25th.
