Brooklyn Greenway Initiative is a nonprofit organization committed to the development, establishment and long-term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, a 26-mile landscaped and protected route that is still under underway. If you’ve walked, run, or rode your bike along the Brooklyn waterfront, you have Brooklyn Greenway Initiative to thank for their advocacy work. Founded fifteen years ago, the Initiative was a catalyzing organization in the creation and stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, of which 18 miles are currently use.
Tomorrow evening at the Williamsburg Hotel, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative will throw its annual party, Greenway + Industry, with this year’s honorees, Eric L. Adams the Brooklyn Borough President and Steve Hindy: Co-Founder and Chairman of the Brooklyn Brewery. There are two levels of tickets, $75 for the desserts, cocktails and dancing from 8:30 PM to 11 PM, or $250 for the portion that includes the award ceremony and food tastings, which begin at 6:30 PM.

When complete, the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway will stretch from Greenpoint to East New York, connecting Brooklyn’s storied and iconic waterfront, parks and open space, commercial and cultural corridors, and new tech and innovation hubs for 2.65 million Brooklyn residents, over 1.1 million employees in Brooklyn, and 15 million annual visitors from across the City and around the world. 18 miles are currently in use, with segments currently in progress in Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Clinton Hill/Fort Greene, Bay Ridge and Gravesend, and new sections projected to break grown in Gowanus and Sunset Park in 2020. And in exciting news, the City of New York just committed to connect the full route by 2021. Brooklyn Greenway Initiative are also the developers and stewards of the Naval Cemetery Landscape on the edge of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and accessible from the Greenway.
