Friday, November 15th

Watch a classic Hitchcock thriller on the giant screen at Untied Palace, Manhattan’s fourth largest theater and one of the original Loew’s Wonder Theaters built in the 1920s and 1930s. Before the film, Tiffany Vazquez, Senior Manager of Editorial at GIPHY (for all film-related GIFs), and Film historian Lou Lumenick will give an introduction.

Take part in the kick-off of the Harlem Docfest with a screening of The Remix: Hip-Hop X Fashion, a film about women in hip-hop fashion. This weekend-long festival of documentary films is free and open to the public, and includes conversations with filmmakers, actors and scholars. The films featured explore the cultural richness and history of Harlem along with critical issues impacting the community.

Saturday,  November  16th

Discover the remnants of both the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on our Remnants of the World’s Fairs walking tour. Led by our Chief Experience Officer Justin Rivers, this tour will uncover the architectural, artistic and historic relics of the two World’s Fairs New York City hosted in the 20th century. From buried times capsules to abandoned towers, see what’s left and what has been incorporated into the fabric of Queens!

Tour the Remnants of the World’s Fairs at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

See how the movies get New York City Geography wrong The City Reliquary’s Fall event series, Cinema City: Bad NY Geography. Presented by Screen Slate contributor and NYC trivia expert Cosmo Bjorkenheim, each Cinema City program will explore New York City’s many and varied depictions in film through clips and discussion. At this session, discover how filmmaker warp the physical reality of our beloved city, like placing the Guggenheim around the corner from Penn Station or putting waiters in Katz’s Deli. Movies with egregious errors (ahem, Ghostbusters II) have the power to infuriate us proportional to the power of accurate NYC geography (original Ghostbusters) to delight us. $20 tickets include unique themed snacks from Forest Dinners’ Lucia Jazayeri and Anna Gelb and a beer from Brooklyn Brewery!

Laugh out loud at Riverside Park, for no reason! Actor Anupam Kher (“New Amsterdam”) to hosts the third Laugh Fitness Event where more than 100 New York City residents are expected to participate between 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. The event will take place at Hudson Beach in Riverside Park at 105th Street. Visitors will be guided through an hour of mood-boosting breathing techniques and side-splitting laughter exercises.

Sunday, November  17th

Enjoy the fall foliage (while it last!) on our Secrets of Central Park walking tour. On this expert led tour, guests will learn about the massive project which turned rocky swampland in the center of Manhattan into a beautiful natural oasis that famous all over the world. The tour will end at 99 Ryerson Street, Whitman’s home when he completed the first edition of Leaves of Grass and the single Whitman residence (of over 30) that still stands. Pop in to the Queens Museum for a public assembly on the Green New Deal. This free event will gather a wide array of advocates, organizers, and elected officials to explore the GND’s relationship to society, policy, and the built environment, focusing on modeling democratic debates that seriously consider the ambitions and challenges of the GND. The public event includes morning workshops and an afternoon series of discussions to encourage exchange among invited guests representing a range of disciplines as well as the general public.

Monday, November 18th

Watch a Broadway play that was created in just 24-hours! Featuring stars like Justin Long and Stranger Things’ David Harbour, these six, brand-new plays were all written and rehearsed within 24 hours. The19th Annual The 24 Hour Plays Broadway Gala will honor the career of Academy Award®-winning actress Kathy Bates, and celebrate and support the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN).

Tuesday, November 19th

Walk the original coastline and street grid of Manhattan as you trace the remnants of Dutch New Amsterdam. On Untapped New York’s Remnants of Dutch New Amsterdam tour, guests will learn about the colonial beginning of New York City and what Lower Manhattan was like under Dutch rule. You will see physical remnants of the colony and even get to touch an 18th-century wall!

Wednesday, November 20th

Learn about the Megaprojects That Transformed New York City at a discussion inside the Museum of the City of New York! From Rockefeller Center and Roosevelt Island to the newly-minted Hudson Yards, distinguished urban historians Dr. Lizabeth Cohen, Daniel Okrent, and Dr. Samuel Zipp join urban planner Regina Myer to consider the complex legacies of New York City’s sprawling real estate projects, then and now, at the Museum of the City of New York. Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic Paul Goldberger moderates. A reception will follow.

Thursday, November 21st

Join the Waterfront Alliance, the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) for a public forum on Water Quality and Natural Resources at the Cornell College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. Next year, DCP will release the next NYC Comprehensive Waterfront Plan, which will guide waterfront planning and policy for the city for the next 10 years. This forum will convene the general public and local stakeholders — environmental advocates, community groups and leaders, local organizations, and waterfront enthusiasts of all kinds!

Join Perry Ground for an engaging and informative workshop and storytelling session about the history of a very misunderstood holiday, Thanksgiving. Rethinking Thanksgiving at the National Museum of the American Indian will use only primary source documents that chronicle the “First Thanksgiving” and  a quiz-style format, to show visitors accurate and culturally appropriate information about the English settlers at Plymouth and the Wampanoag, the Native people who inhabited that area, Guests will see how this story became the holiday is known today.
