Ever since the start of the coronavirus, Broadway has remained shut, and 42nd Street will most likely stay closed until the end of the summer if not longer. However, a trailer for the filmed version of the original Broadway production of “Hamilton” was released last night by Disney+ ahead of the July 3rd premiere. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the show and starred in the original production, also tweeted the trailer with the caption “May you always be satisfied…”, in reference to the song “Satisfied” from the musical. The new #Hamilfilm will stream only on Disney+ and was originally shot onstage at The Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2016.

“An unforgettable cinematic stage performance, the filmed version of the original Broadway production of ‘Hamilton’ combines the best elements of live theater, film and streaming to bring the cultural phenomenon to homes around the world for a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience,” the film’s media kit said.
The film’s earlier-than-expected release date of July 3rd shocked many excited viewers, as the film’s previous release date was October 15, 2021. The musical blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway to retell the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, inspired by the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow. The musical has won 11 Tony Awards, a GRAMMY Award, an Olivier Award, and a Pulitzer Prize. Thomas Kail directed the musical, and since its 2015 premiere, it has become one of the most successful Broadway shows in history.
