Vintage 1970s Photos Show Lost Sites of NYC's Lower East Side
A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
A few days after Edge Observation Deck at Hudson Yards opened in March, the city went into shelter mode for the coronavirus pandemic. Widely anticipated to be the foot-tingling opening of the year, the Edge delivers. It rises 1,100 feet above the street, extends out 80 feet from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards. With 7,500 square feet of viewing platform that includes clear glass openings looking down to the street, angled glass walls and corners for photographs, and 360-degree views of the New York City skyline, we heard from even rather jaded long-time New Yorkers that it was an exciting visit.
On opening day, we hosted numerous tours to Edge, paired with a walkthrough of Hudson Yards focused on the architecture and evolution of the area from industrial rail yard to the largest real estate development in the world. Now, this tour and visit to Edge observation deck is back! The guided walk, led by Untapped New York’s Chief Experience Officer, will end with a trip up to Edge where guests can take in the views and stay as long as they like. Be among the first to experience the reopening of this exhilarating attraction by booking your tickets now.
Rescheduled guests from March have also been contacted to rebook their tour. All of our in-person tours have small groups, state-of-the-art radio ear pieces for safe social distancing, and more health & safety measures and Edge has robust new safety measures as well, developed in partnership with Mt. Sinai Hospital, which include temperature checks, social distancing, and reduction of capacity by 75%.
