A Female Gaze is an exhibition at the Howard Greenberg Gallery surveying more than seven decades of work by 12 women photographers. Unlike other artistic disciplines, the democratic nature of street photography allowed for an increased level of female participation with organizations such as The Photo League containing some of the most famous female street photographers of the mid-20th century.

Featuring street photographers such as Berenice Abbott, Esther Bubley, and Mary Ellen Mark, the 49 photographs on display span the 20th century from Abbott’s 1930s documentation of New York City to Jodi Bieber’s ten-year project on the lives of youth living on the fringes of South American society that began in 1994. A Female Gaze will be on view through April 2, 2022, in the gallery’s new space on the 8th floor of the Fuller Building.
