11. Jen Lewin’s The Pool and untitled sculptures by CHIAOZZA at Industry City
This winter, the Collision Project, Industry City’s campus-wide arts initiative, is bringing two new works to its campus. The first is Brooklyn-based artist Jen Lewin’s The Pool, a large-scale interactive installation featuring concentric circles made from more than 100 circular pads that visitors can walk, jump, dance on, and play with. Drawing inspiration for its design from Australian tidal pools, the installation uses mesh-network technology and custom code to active platforms that respond to the touch of viewers. In doing so, visitors are encouraged to actively interact with The Pool, creating a world in which play and collaborative movement produce a mesmerizing swirling show of light and color. Over the years, as part of Lewin’s “Have Art, Will Travel” program, the installation has resided in more than 20 countries and over 60 exhibition venues from Abu Dhabi to Istanbul and Shanghai. The Pool will be open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through March 28, 2022.
Beginning on February 14, an untitled set of five permanent sculptures by CHIAOZZA will be placed on display in Courtyard ½ of Industry City’s creative campus. Created to be suggestive of play while also not being directive, the installation provides endless possibilities for interactions between visitors and the artwork.
