New York City’s oldest candy store just got a brand new location. Economy Candy on New York City’s Lower East Side has satisfied sweet tooth cravings for 85 years. Now, the store is expanding for the first time into a second location. Starting today, customers on the west side of Manhattan can get their sugar fix at A Taste of Economy Candy inside Chelsea Market, a satellite store to the flagship shop on Rivington Street.

While the new candy store is slightly smaller than the original east side location, there will be no shortage of sweets. A Taste of Economy Candy will feature your favorite vintage and classic candies alongside with a variety of sugary treats that will rotate monthly, so there will always be something new to taste. The store is jam-packed with colorful products on display in every available space. Chocolates, fruity treats, and old-school favorites line shelves that start at the floor and stretch nearly to the ceiling.

Economy Candy started out as a pushcart in front of a shoe and hat repair shop on the corner of Rivington and Essex. In 1937, the candy business took over the corner storefront and grew into a beloved New York City institution. Since World War II when Morris (Moishe) Cohen took over the business with his brother-in-law, the store has been family-run. The shop is now run by the third generation of Cohens. Today, they sell more than 2,000 different types of sweet treats and are one of the oldest food establishments in New York City.

To celebrate the opening of the new store, Economy Candy is hosting a variety of opening week giveaways and events. Discounts and free treats can be won through a scratch-off game available to all customers who stop by the new location from Feb 7th to 14th to get a free scratch card. On Valentines Day, Tony’s Chocolonely will be handing out free (full sized!) chocolate bars and themed sweets to the first 200 guests. YOu can also enter Economy Candy’s Instagram giveaway for a chance to win a bag full of sweet swag.
