Hard Hat Tour of The Refinery at Domino Sugar Factory
On this tour led by Dave Lombino, Managing Director of External Affairs at Two Trees Management, guests will learn about the evolution of the Domino Sugar Factory site on the Williamsburg waterfront, from the time of its opening by the Havemeyers family at the turn of the 19th century to its heyday as one of the largest facilities in the world.
You’ll also explore Domino Park, the 6-acre public park that runs parallel along the entire 11-acre Domino Sugar Factory site. As you walk the site, you’ll uncover some of the 30 large-scale, salvaged artifacts that were once components of the sugar refining process.
Inside The Refinery, you’ll discover an innovative vertical garden of trees and greenery planted between the landmarked brick facade and the newly constructed tower. Lombino will explain how the developer (Two Trees Management), landscape architect (James Corner Field Operations), and lead architect (Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) are working together to combine new state-of-the-art, modern design with the original industrial facade to house a new age of workers.
The grand finale will be a trip to the top of the tower to take in stunning views of Manhattan from the glass-domed penthouse!
