Gain exclusive access inside the soon to be renovated William Ulmer Brewery in Bushwick on a 4-hour photo tour! Guests on this experience will be among the last people to see this landmarked, 19th-century building in its raw and dormant state before it’s transformed by DXA Studios into housing and retail. Put on a hard hat and venture into the abandoned structures on the lesser-traveled south side of Ellis Island. These 29-buildings once operated as a hospital for those passing through the immigration station. In later years, it served as a Coast Guard base and FBI detention center. Led by a docent from Save Ellis Island, you’ll explore space usually oft-limits to the public, like the former autopsy room, laundry room, and contagious disease wards.

Travel through Flushing Meadows Corona Park and spot the remnants of NYC’s two World’s Fairs from 1939-40 and 1964-65! In the park, you’ll find one of the oldest man-made objects in NYC, abandoned mid-century architecture, and learn about the controversial works Warhol created for the festivities.

Sunday, August 27th – Visit a Hidden Bookstore Inside a Gilded Age Mansion

Tucked away inside an Italian Renaissance  mansion designed by Stanford White is a bookstore that sells French and English tomes. The former home of William Payne Whitney and Helen Julia Hay now houses the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and is one of the stops on this stroll along 5th Avenue. On this tour, you’ll see some of the most magnificent homes of the Gilded Age and learn abou the scandals that happened inside!
