World of AI-magination at ARTECHOSUE
World of AI•magintioncombines generative algorithms with human creativity, giving us a unique view of how part of us is always yearning to create new experiences. Just like the technological systems create new designs to display on the walls of the space, our human mind is uncovering new possibilities.
The experience is 20 minutes long and is displayed on four walls and the floor of the basement space which used to serve as the boiler room for Chelsea Market. Viewers can watch six enthralling scenes unfurl. Follow through the ethereal “Submerge” to “GAN Mecca,” which takes inspiration from Zaha Hadid and M.C Escher. Watch bookshelves come to life in “Library of Magical Portals,” which morphs into “Symphony of Illusions.” Fall into the designs of “Infinite Maze,” finally culminating with “The Dreamer’s Emporium.”
The creation of the project is fascinating, initially being led by human design that became a visual narrative divided into six scenes. Eventually, NVIDIA hardware and generative AI tools were incorporated based on extensive research into the limits of machine learning models. Over a million different data sets were generated by combining the visual team’s 3D animations with the software team’s GAN models. Animated textures and shapes were born and the crew was halfway there. The content was scaled to fit the 17.5k resolution gallery, requiring custom procedures for the size and intricacy of the project. The project was completed, yet the team is still ready for future advancements as they continue learning about the landscape of AI and computer graphics.
Head upstairs to the XR Bar to try a cocktail or mocktail crafted by the studio’s in-house mixologist. The drinks were inspired by the exhibition and can be brought to life through the ARTECHOUSE XR mobile app.
ARTECHOUSE isn’t new to the world of visual art. Since its opening in 2015, the studio has been redefining the way art can be experienced. They have opened 3 permanent locations nationwide and created over 30 groundbreaking art exhibits, with 150 XR activations and 10 Live Shows. They have tapped into the realm of NFTs and digital apps, and they don’t plan on stopping their test of the technological sphere.
In 2023, the studio collaborated with Pantone to create a captivating exhibit about the color of the year Viva Magenta, and a year prior they crafted a visual story about the life of a neuron. Creativity clearly runs endlessly at ARTECHOUSE, so be sure to head to their NYC location for this groundbreaking new venture.
World of AI•magintion closes on March 17th to make way for the next immersive show, Ase: Afro Frequencies which explores historical and social aspects of the West African diaspora through an artistic lens.
