As we looked at fall events in New York City, we were amazed about how many incredible food events there were. Here we’ve highlighted our favorites for September and the beginning of October, many which highlight the local food scene.
This two-day festival of symposiums, discussions, and workshops is based entirely around food and for the food-obsessed. Taste Talk is a collaboration with Northside Media Group and renowned chef April Bloomfield. There are dozens of events such as a coffee pancake breakfast, a bitters workshop, a food photography course and discussions including Is The Restaurant Over? and The New Brew with Blue Bottle, Intelligentsia, Stumptown and Toby’s Estate Coffee with complimentary coffee provided by Stumptown. The annual Aftertaste event from The Joy of Sake is a large sake tasting of the most modern, finest sakes from around the world. The Joy of Sake will be serving over 300 premium sakes to taste. The events provides contemporary and transitional appetizers and entrees of Asian cuisine by participating restaurants. The Joy of Skae is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate people about sake. Be there Thursday, September 26th at 135 West 18th Street. See Tickets.
For one night only, world-renowned pastry chef Will Goldfarb crafts desserts in honor of the The Unholy Trinity, a dinner honoring sugar, fat and booze hosted by Louro in the West Village. Louro’s chef Dave Santos will be serving up the savory and mixologist Mayur Subbarao will be creating numerous cocktails to match each course. Produced by Underground Eats, this dinner will be happening September 10 and is open to public. Get tickets here.
The Food Waste Free NYC gathers speakers for Food Waste Awareness Week to discuss ways people have already started to waste less food as well as the larger contributions to the food system and how people can still change it. Organized by The Food Tank, speakers include Diane Hatz of Change Food and TEDx Manhattan, Jonathan Bloom the author of American Wasteland, and Elise Golan of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to name a few. The event is sold out however people can still participate by joining the event’s live-stream on Food Tank’s website starting at 5:30pm on September 19.
Jose Ramirez-Ruiz of Chez Jose in Brooklyn partners up with butcher John Ratliff for Super Pig Roast Sunday on September 15th. At Crown Victoria at 60 South 2nd street in Brooklyn Super Pig Roast Sunday involves a Master Class and the Carnivorous Party hosted by Parisian and New-york chefs. This roast is only one part of the Omnivore World Tour.
Tickets include four master classes and five dishes at the Carnivorous Party.
The Tea Party – Dance Party is a brand new event in Brooklyn combining high tea time and dancing. Local artisan food makers, sponsors, and also food bloggers will offer such as tea sandwiches, jams, cocktails, and a chocolate fountain. A portion of the proceeds will go to Citymeals-On-Wheels so join the tea party hosted by Jackie Gordon (The Diva That Ate New York) and Ken Leung (Hungry Rabbit NYC) on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Gowanus Loft on 61 9th Street in Brooklyn.
