7 Combination Bars and Cafes in NYC: Barcade, Two Boots Pizza, Videology, Uncommons, Bars and Books, Snip and Sip
Earlier this year, we presented 8 combination coffee shops in New York City, ranging from record shop coffee shops to flower shop coffee shops and everything in between. Since then, we’ve come across a lot more combination joints where you can get a drink, sip a coffee or grab a slice of pizza, all while reveling in another fun activity ranging from board games, arcade games, video screening or even getting your hair cut.
1. Board Game Cafe: Uncommons

At Uncommons in Greenwich Village, all you need to do is pay $5 and you can sit there all day, pick from over 480 games, and play as much as your gaming heart desires. You still have to pay for the coffee and food, but customers usually get hungry after hours of competition. They have all the classics along with family games, strategy games, abstract games, party games, etc. You think of a game or edition, and odds are Uncommons has it. 2. BYOB Board Game Cafe: Brooklyn Strategist
They’re not so different, but the “vibes” at The Brooklyn Strategist in Carroll Gardens is about as far from Uncommons as an establishment could get. They run an after school program where kids can learn card games, ancient strategy games, chess, checkers, role playing games, and more. Then, at night it turns into game center for adults with trivia games, Dungeons & Dragons tournaments, a fantasy sport club and more. They serve French press coffee, teas, old fashioned sodas and snacks but you can BYOB.

3. Library Bar: Bars and Books
With locations on Hudson, Lexington, Beekman, and two locations in Prague, Bars and Books provides a nice ambiance comparable to a library, but with drinks. They host cocktail parties, charity benefit events, theme parties, and whiskey seminars (given by by Ambassadors and Master Distillers from Scotland). The quiet atmosphere is perfect for reading and drinking alone, or casual social drinking.

4. Movie Rental Pizza Restaurant: Two Boots Pizza
With several locations in NYC, we love Two Boots Pizza–especially the Avenue A location. One of the few places left where you can physically rent out movies, you could also get an awesome pizza to go. Or if you’re staying, you can always watch whatever is playing on the in-restaurant screens.
5. Bar Arcade: Barcade
Barcade in Williamsburg offers quite the experience: great craft beers and classic american arcade games. This combination is the adult hangout when you’re just craving a throwback to childhood video games. 6. Screening Room Cafe/Bar: Videology
At Videology in Williamsburg, not only can you rent movies, but you can watch them with a crowd of fun people in this great bar/screening room. They also host a plethora of games and tournaments. Online, they advertise: “
Screening room with nightly movies and events. Also a bar/cafe. Also a video store. We got it goin’ on.” With quirky events like “Arrested Development Bingo” and “PSYCHO: Entirely From Memory” attended by regulars and curious visitors, Videology has significant community established in Williamsburg. It’s easy to walk by the Snip and Sip hair salon in the West Village and miss it, but the little gem of a shop offers a retro soda-fountain theme while you get your hair done. This combination creates a really relaxed atmosphere to get beautiful and pretend you’re a 1960s teen for an hour.
