The 11th Annual Governor’s Island Art Fair kicks off this Saturday on Colonels Row at Governors Island. Nearly 100 artists will exhibit their work across eight of the historic homes on Colonels Row, with each artist installing in an individual room or connective space. The fair, the largest independent exhibition in New York City, is produced by 4heads, a nonprofit organization created by artists for artists, and will be will be open every weekend in September from 11am until 6pm.
Spend Sunday afternoon strolling through Central Park with Untapped Cities as you uncover the secrets of some of the park’s most iconic features and hidden sites. Hear the forbidden love story that inspired the statues of Bethesda Terrace, learn about the former African-American village that once thrived inside the park, and discover the story of the infamous casino, where alcohol flowed throughout the Prohibition. Learn about the genesis, design, and evolution of the immense green space, while uncovering its many outrageous happenings, scandals and more.
Secrets of Central Park Walking Tour

The Museum of Interesting Things is taking over a SoHo loft on Sunday night for an evening of movies, music and antiques at a prohibition and nautical themed Secret Speakeasy. The Museum of Interesting Things is a traveling interactive demonstration and exhibition of antiques and inventions. At the event, guests will see 16mm short films the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s, listen to original vinyl records, and handle authentic antiques, like early 1900’s and 1800’s Stereoviews and Mutoscope cards, from the museum’s nautical collection. There will be drinks and refreshments!

Celebrate the final day of the New York Caribbean Carnival with the New York Caribbean Carnival Parade presented by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association. The parade route starts at in Crown Heights at Schenectady Avenue and runs along Eastern Parkway with a grand finale at Grand Army Plaza. The streets will be filled with dancers in vibrantly colored attire and equally extravagant floats will make their way down the roads as revelers celebrate the history, culture, music, food, and people from the various Caribbean countries on September 3rd.
On Monday, the US Open kicked off by a performance from Kelly Clarkson and wins for Venus and Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Sloane Stephens. Round 16 matches for the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place on Monday September 3rd at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing-Meadows Corona Park. The tournament goes on until September 9th.

Enjoy some good old-fashioned family fun at the 39th Annual Richmond Town County Fair. Historic Richmond Town is a living history town and museum complex in Staten Island. The fair runs all weekend long, from Saturday through Monday, and will include all the traditional staples of a county fair like rides, a petting zoo, a pie eating contest, music, costumed historians and circus performers and some newer additions like a craft beer garden and food trucks.

The Tenth Summer HD Festival at the Metropolitan Opera enables guests to screen amazing opera performances outside in Lincoln Center Plaza on a giant screen. On Monday, the final night of the festival, the opera screened will be a 2016 performance pf Madama Butterfly by Puccini featuring soprano Kristine Opolais and tenor Roberto Alagna. The center sets up 2,800 seats and there is additional standing room.
