It’s December 1867, Charles Dickens arrives in New York City for a month of sold-out performances of his beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. Join our Underground Tour of the NYC Subway, which revels in the little-known origins of the subway system. Begin above ground, see numerous abandoned subway stations while riding the train, and discover the ingenuity that led to the subway’s creations and the evolution of the system and art through over a century.
Walk the original street grid of Manhattan and see where the coastline was during colonial times on Untapped New York’s Tour of the Remnants of Dutch New Amsterdam. At the Eldridge Street Synagogue, join the talk “Women in Power and Powerful Women in the Bible” at 3 PM. The Bible is full of stories involving women – in battle, in peril, in moral quandaries. Dr. Amy Kalmanofsky has dedicated her scholarship to powerful woman of the Bible, their legacies in our culture and their impact on our lives today. Watch a dress rehearsal of Las Fridas, presented at the Mark DeGarmo Dance Studio Theater 310. This 60-minute duet is inspired by the life and work of Mexican painter and revolutionary, Frida Kahlo. Las Fridas explores a transcultural, transdisciplinary art, theater, and performance space, while the sum of its two parts suggests a strange new surrealistic view of Frida’s life and traumas. The performance was directed, and choreographed by Mark DeGarmo, who also plays a role alongside performer Marie Baker-Lee, Performer.
